WHISPERS FROM PRASHANTHI NILAYAM

Ladies' Day Discourse

Women are generally considered weak, Abalaa. But they have seven strengths in virtues compared to only three for men! Chandramati and Damayanti are sterling examples of the courage of Bharatiya womanhood, an exemplar for the rest of the world.
… Men teachers do not touch the heart as lady teachers do. The reason is the love and forbearance of the latter. But there are ominous changes today in the practice of Dharma.
"If women go to offices, who will take care of the children ? Who will cook ? If a woman goes to teach others' children, who will teach her own ones ? Truly speaking, a working woman can never find happiness." By working, they gain financially but lose happiness. Do other work but housework is more important - give it the priority it deserves.
… Women should never be made to shed tears, or else prosperity will wane. That is the  man's responsibility. For Sathya and Dharma, freedom for ladies is essential. But home is their basis, which they should not abandon.
… The need of the hour is to develop virtues in children, for the sake of the country. Thousands go abroad for the sake of money, a great mistake. Parents should aspire for "good" children - not "great" children. Rama was good while Ravana was "great" !

Convocation Address

Every graduate must work for social progress. Why is there no scope for such thoughts today ? The students are not capable of treading the path on their own, the teachers don't  mould them by example either.
… In ancient days, Vidya and Vaidya (education and health care) were free. Students were tested in the forest -- "Which tree is useless?" All are useful! At least, they remove the CO2 we breathe out!
... Today's educational fees are too high. Give free education. Then there will be no problem of allotment of seats. In our institute, education is free, so there is no agitation. We are happy, the students are happy, the teachers are happy. "Let us be gateful" - that is attitude. But such an attitude is not seen in elders, the government, or in students outside. First, the attitude of the government must change. Then all will change.
Talk less, more work - that is the first lesson to be learnt. I am happy with the sacred thoughts of our students - they even humbly show their parents the right path - it makes Me so happy! I want only one thing - our children must get good name.
Students, don't try for "big degrees". Get good hearts. Help parents, help society. Examine all, absorb good qualities from everyone. "If I study this, I will get that job" - that is the wrong attitude. Mingle with people. Never hate or harm. If you can't help, shut up! That's a great help! Work proportionate to your salary. If a man gets 20,000 and doesn't work accordingly, he is betraying the country!
...Here, all students are most satisfactory. Anybody who joins, in a month becomes ideal. Wherever you go, get good name. After marriage, the girls must get good name from their in-laws! Do your duty sincerely - then I will be happy.

juice, honey, sugar, and other ingredients of various tastes and textures.  It is to remind us that life is a mixture of good and bad, joy and sorry, and that all aspects of life must be treated alike.
