On Saturday, April 25th we held a Newcomer's Evening that was hosted by Gautam and Nalini Bilimoria. It was a forum for the new devotees to learn about Swami, His mission, and the Centre's activities, and to become better acquainted with the Centre members. After sharing some experiences, a moving talk was given by sister Rama Sayeram. She chose a most appropriate topic - "Pure Love", for it was an evening when Swami poured lots of it on all those present. Natasha and Vitali, two guests from Ukraine, were so touched by it that they described it as one of their memorable experiences, just like being at home with the family. In her talk, Sister Rama related the following story of a sevadal worker in Prasanthi Nilayam, as an example of pure love. Swami was to come and give darshan just after the completion of the construction of the garden. Before Swami's arrival, this sevadal worker wanted to pick up all of the thorns on the ground so that none would prick Swami's lotus feet. But, there were so many of them that he did not know how to find them all. The sevadal worker decided to take off his sandals and walk barefoot so that the thorns would prick him and he could then pick them up. After he had finished removing all of the thorns, an elderly man came and began caressing his feet. The sevadal was shocked and embarrassed, and asked the man to stop. The man looked up lovingly into the sevadal worker's eyes and continued to caress his feet. Later that day, Swami arrived to give darshan, everyone stood in a line waiting for Swami to come near. As Swami came near the sevadal worker, he turned and looked into his eyes. The sevadal worker realized that these were the same eyes of the elderly gentleman who was touching his feet earlier. The pure, selfless love of the sevadal worker moved the divine Lord to touch his feet!
