Former centre president, Uncle Raj Samaroo, first conceived of the
idea to have a web site for the Sri Sathya Sai Baba Centre of Toronto - York.
One Sunday evening after the centre's devotional singing session in
November of 1998, he asked two youth boys to meet with him in private.
These two youth boys had no idea what Uncle Raj wanted to see
them about. The first question Uncle Raj put to them was: 'What do
you think about our centre having a web site?' These two youth boys looked at
each other and said to Uncle Raj that it would be a nice idea. Then Uncle Raj
asked us: 'Do you think it is feasible for our centre to have a
web site?' The two youth boys looked at each other again and looked to Uncle Raj
and shrugged their shoulders. To which Uncle asked them to investigate the
idea. They accepted the challenge not knowing the adventures they were about
to endure.
For one reason or the other, these two youth boys could not begin until
March 1999. Which turned out to be a good thing, because Swami revealed the
hidden technical and administrative talents of two more youth boys. The four
of them began the investigation process that Uncle Raj had asked them to start
almost six months earlier.
These four youth boys began to talk and meet on a regular basis. They
developed a few principles and some understandings about what they wanted to
see come out of the centre's web site, who the audience would be, and what
this defined audience would supposedly like to see from the Sri Sathya Sai
Baba Centre of Toronto - York's official web site. After establishing all of this,
the four youth boys met with the centre executives to re-present the idea of
having a centre web site to them. After a brief meeting it was decided that
these four youth boys could go ahead and begin construction of the centre's
web site.
With the help of a few other youths, the four youth boys spent a few
months creating the first version of the centre's web site. They did so in
stages, so that they would not be to overwhelmed in the initial construction
stages of the centre's web site. They then presented the web site to the centre
as a whole, several times to get it's feedback. After all, this site was to
represent the centre.
Prior to Sri Sathya Sai Baba's Birthday celebrations in November
of 1999, the team wanted to officially launch the web site, as they felt it
was ready. But due to one technicality or the other, this did not happen. The
web site was launched on the Internet, but was not announced outside the
centre. Again, shortly after this occurrence, Sri Sathya Sai Baba,
added to the team another member, who to date has been instrumental in many
technical enhancements to the centre's web site.
At the present time, the centre's web site reflects every aspect of the
centre, and is a resource that can be used by all people, as it is primarily
presented in the English, and is constructed with people with different
physical challenges in mind.
One of the benefits of setting up a web site is that, it can facilitate
the process of distributing pieces of centre material and information. As the
number of centre members and youths is rapidly growing at the Sri Sathya Sai
Baba Centre of Toronto - York, it has become increasingly difficult to contact each
and every individual to keep them well informed about upcoming events. By
setting up a web site, the amount of time spent trying to contact people is
reduced, because the information is conveniently available at any time, for
any interested person to access.
It is the sincere hope and prayer of the web site team that Sri
Sathya Sai Baba allows us to serve Him through this web site, and that this
web site will exist for as long as the Sri Sathya Sai Baba Centre of Toronto - York
does.
AUM SRI SAI RAM!
